Makybe Diva Stakes 2014 day at Flemington – Raceday information

Sofitel Girls’ Day Out tomorrow (Saturday) will give Melbourne a serious taste of what’s to come over the Melbourne Cup Carnival, with the arrival of spring Group 1 racing and fashion to Flemington.

The feature Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes will set the tone for how the upcoming major weight-for-age races and Emirates Melbourne Cup are likely to play out.

The field of 11 features five individual Group 1 winners. Horses to watch include 2012 Emirates Melbourne Cup winner,Green Moon, 2013 Emirates Stakes and Epsom Handicap winner, Boban, 2013 Caulfield Cup winner, Fawkner, the spruik horse of the 2013 Carnival, Puissance De Lune, and David Hayes’ UK import Spillway.

The in-form Peter Moody stable will saddle the favourite, highly impressive last start Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) winnerDissident.

Above the horse stalls, the Paris Lane Marquee will offer the girls demonstrations by milliners Serena Lindeman and Natalie Bikicki, a retail village brimming with spring millinery and fashion accessories, a pop-up nail art bar and live entertainment.

The Let Them Eat Cake VRC Young Members raceday event in The View and The Peak will be attended by many of Melbourne’s most fashionable faces including Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Rebeccah Panozza, stylist Tre Dallas, Nova’s Lauren Brain and SecondBite Ambassadors Helena and Vikki Moursellas.

Back on track the Group 2 Danehill Stakes for 3YOs sees the unbeaten Go Indy Go take on Leon MacDonald’s star fillyGet the Nod and John O’Shea’s Ghibellines.

The Living Legends Stakes is one of the most anticipated races on the undercard with a clash of Mark Kavanagh’s exciting colt Chivalry, last start winner of the Group 3 McNeil Stakes, and the regally bred Divan.

Malua Racing’s Commanding Jewel will defend her crown in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes. The five-year-old mare has only had one start since her win last year with an eye-catching return in the Cockram Stakes.

The Group 3 Bobby Lewis Quality will see New Zealand raider El Roca start favourite in a quality field down the Flemington straight.

Younger racegoers can enjoy free family games and activities including pony rides, while Living Legends Paris Lane andApache Cat will meet fans of all ages in the horse stalls and Mounting Yard throughout the day.
