Majestic Beast to step up to open company

It’s taken Majestic Beast until her six-year-old season to hit her straps and earn a crack at open company.

Trainer Kerry Parker said the mare’s three recent wins were proof of her new-found maturity and she was now ready to take the next step in Saturday’s Metro Plate (2400m) at Randwick.

Majestic Beast won a 2000m race at Kembla Grange on October 17 and followed that with midweek metropolitan wins at Randwick, firstly on the Kensington track over 2500m and then the course proper over 2400.

The only factor missing on Saturday will be apprentice Winona Costin but Parker is happy to have senior jockey Brenton Avdulla aboard.

Costin, Sydney leading apprentice, has been sent on an overseas learning experience by her boss Gai Waterhouse.

“Winona’s claim has been helpful but I understand Gai has sent her for a holiday,” Parker said.

“Brenton will ride her and she still gets into the race well under the set weights and penalties conditions.

“I think we’ve still beaten the handicapper and the mare has earned a crack at Saturday grade.

“She has taken a while to strengthen but is now mature and her previous experience on the Kensington track will help.”

Majestic Beast will carry 55kg with the Bede Murray-trained World Wide lumbered with 65.5kg.

If Majestic Beast comes through her Randwick assignment as well as Parker hopes, she will be given her chance as Listed level in the Christmas Cup (2400m) on December 13.

“The Christmas Cup fits in nicely and if she turns up on Saturday and races competitively that’s where she’ll go,” Parker said.

The Christmas Cup will also be a target for Majestic Beast’s stablemate Planet Purple who pleased Parker with his sixth, beaten 1-1/2 lengths, in a 1600m race at Randwick last Saturday week.
