Michelle Payne’s feet haven’t touched the ground since her historic win aboard Prince Of Penzance in the Melbourne Cup.

In between a flood of media interviews and a street parade in her hometown of Ballarat, Payne has ridden the occasional racehorse.

She was back in the winner’s enclosure at Flemington on Saturday sharing the spoils with Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir with Palentino winning a Listed race.

“It doesn’t get much better than this,” Payne said.

“I’m floating on a cloud and it’s a nice feeling.”

Payne says the phone hasn’t been ringing with more offers of rides but she did say she is limiting herself in the lead-up to the Sandown Guineas meeting next Saturday.

“I’m taking the early part of next week off just to have a rest and to celebrate on the weekend and take it all in,” she said.

“It’s a dream come true so it would be nice to reflect on it.”

Payne is looking forward to her hometown Ballarat Cup meeting on November 21 and said victory in that race would be nearly as big as her victory in last Tuesday’s Cup.

She only had two rides on Saturday’s program steering Lady Cumquat into 12th place after winning aboard Palentino which she said was a satisfying result after her big week.

“I didn’t want to get too nervous but I knew Darren has a high opinion of this horse,” Payne said of Palentino.

“I was so glad to keep the ride on him and he’s so similar to Prince Of Penzance.

“I’ve been trying to get him into becoming a racehorse and he won his first start at Stawell too.

“The fairytale is continuing and I’m just so lucky.”
