News:
Awesome Rock will run in a Group Three race in either Sydney or Melbourne before he is given a shot at Group One redemption.
The four-year-old was first past the post in the Australian Cup but relegated to second behind Preferment after shifting out and bumping the eventual winner.
The Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Doomben Cup are the options trainers Leon and Troy Corstens are considering.
But first he will run on Saturday at either Caulfield or Rosehill.
Awesome Rock was nominated for the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill won by The United States on Saturday but the father and son trainers decided against the seven-day back-up.
“He’ll either run in the Easter Cup or the Neville Sellwood Stakes,” Troy Corstens said.
“It will depend on the rain, because he hates the rain. We’ll watch the weather and if it’s dry in Melbourne we’ll run here.”
Corstens said Awesome Rock would have to win, and win well, to look at the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 9.
“If not we’ll look at the Hollindale Stakes and Doomben Cup,” he said.
“He’s come through the Australian Cup really well.”
