Kemp filly on Song for Gold Coast Guineas

Veteran trainer Kevin Kemp doesn’t get excited about much, but the last-start effort of Sold For Song has him keyed up for the winter.

Sold For Song will be having only her fifth start when she tackles the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) on Saturday.

A cheap buy at $2500, Sold For Song has won twice and been second twice for $154,000 prize money.

At her first run back from a spell Sold For Song came from a long way back in the field to finish second to Devine Centuri in the Mick Dittman Plate at the Sunshine Coast.

“I wasn’t shaking before the race but I was afterwards. It was a fantastic run and she showed she had matured a lot for her spell,” Kemp said.

Apprentice Luke Dittman will retain the ride and it will give him a chance for his third stakes win of his junior career.

“She is a very nice filly and the 1200 metres should suit her much better,” Dittman said.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick is weighing up a start for Devine Centuri who drew barrier 20.

“She showed what she can do with her win in the Mick Dittman and I believe she will be even better at 1200 metres and further,” he said.

“But barriers are very important and she is a go-forward horse.”
