News:

Our Nkwazi capped a day of long-odds winners at Moonee Valley with a narrow victory in the final race on the card.

The Shawn Mathrick-trained eight-year-old, ridden by Danny Adam, was sent out at $51 and hit the line well to get home just ahead of second favourite Prince Harada with the favourite Boomwaa holding on for third after leading.

Our Nkwazi was one of three outsiders in the four legs of the quadrella, setting up a $300,685.90 dividend on the Victorian TAB.

Mathrick said he was not surprised by the upset win.

“No way. I said to Danny, `you’ll win this’,” Mathrick said.

“I said just ride him just off the speed and he’ll give you everything he’s got.

“Danny rides him every day at trackwork.”

Adam said it was his first city victory since winning on Charlottes Mint at the same track in December, 2011.

The win was Our Nkwazi’s second at Moonee Valley this season after scoring in a 1000m race in early August.
