Jockey Carly-Mae Pye dies from injuries

Queensland jockey Carly-Mae Pye has died from injuries she suffered in a fall at Rockhampton.

The 26-year-old was riding a horse in a jump-out at the Rockhampton racecourse on Monday when it broke its two front legs, and fell on top of her.

She suffered severe head, neck and chest injuries and was put on life support in Rockhampton Base Hospital where she died late on Tuesday afternoon.

Racing Queensland chief executive Darren Condon was in Rockhampton to support Pye’s partner, trainer Tim Cook, and her family.

Condon said there would be an investigation into the fall but it appeared everything possible had been done to help the stricken rider.
