News:

Melbourne colt Pressing will have another workout in blinkers on Tuesday to ready him for the Group One J J Atkins Stakes in Brisbane.

The Mick Price-trained Pressing won his first two starts in Melbourne before heading north where he finished ninth, more than six lengths from the winner, in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m).

Champion jockey Damien Oliver was convinced the colt would be be better with the addition of blinkers and Pressing will have that gear change on Saturday in the 1600m feature.

“Damien made a case for him that he got lost that way of going, it was a leader dominated race and his last 100 metres was good,” Price said.

“Damien said he was ‘screaming for blinkers’, those were his exact words.

“He’ll be working in blinkers on the grass on Tuesday.

“He worked in blinkers on Saturday morning and was much better.”

Price hopes the colt hasn’t come to the end of his preparation and says the youngster is thriving in Queensland.

“He’s thrived up there and putting on weight so we train on,” he said.

A number of feature race contenders are set to gallop at Tuesday’s Breakfast with the Stars at Eagle Farm.

Saturday’s Eagle Farm meeting features three Group One races highlighted by the Stradbroke Handicap.
