Golden Slipper betting preview – 2014

Earthquake ($2.5) has been on top of Slipper markets for a long while and has not done anything to suggest she does not deserve that mantle. The filly was explosive in winning the group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield and resumed to lead all the way and win the Reisling Stakes, against her usual pattern of racing. She should be fitter again after that effort but Kerrin McEvoy faces a dilemma about whether to push forward or take a sit from the awkward gate of 13, or 12 if the emergency Scratch Me Lucky ($201) comes out.

Mossfun ($5), from the hottest stable in Australian racing in Team Hawkes, suffered her first defeat when she chased home Earthquake ($2.5) in the Reisling Stakes and looms as the biggest threat.

Bring Me The Maid ($11) has proven she is a strong filly and could be finishing best if there is plenty of speed on, while Oakleigh Girl ($18) ran second to Unencumbered ($16) in the Magic Millions Classic and trainer Danny Bougoure has said she is stronger now after a short break.

Unencumbered ($16) looms as the best hope among the boys, while Valentia ($19) is a rapidly improving type and the Waterhouse stable has a great record in this race, having won it a record five times.

Cornrow ($15) is the other one that has been specked.
