The world’s richest 2yo thoroughbred race, the Golden Slipper, will be run at Rosehill this Saturday with unbeaten Earthquake the ruling favourites at $2.30. That price eased a fraction have she drew barrier 13 at Tuesday’s barrier draw but a poor draw also in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes which she won earlier in the year, wasn’t enough to stop the Exceed And Excel filly. She’s won of three in the race for Darley who will be out to win their second Golden Slipper in four years after Sepoy saluted, also as favourite, in 2011. Gai Waterhouse and Mick Price are the other trainers with multiple entries. Waterhouse will be hoping either Valentia or Law can deliver her, her sixth Golden Slipper whilst

Price will be represented by Jabali and Cornrow. Price had the 2012 Golden Slipper in Samaready who finished third to Waterhouse’s Pierro have she draw poorly in gate 11. His runners this year have drawn much more favourably with Jabali jumping from the inside gate, which has produced three of the last four winners, and Cornrow should be ideally suited from barrier 8.

Golden Slipper 2014 News:
Tommy Berry has reconfirmed he will ride at the Golden Slipper meeting where the Group Two Tulloch Stakes will be renamed in a tribute to his late twin brother and fellow jockey Nathan.
Tommy and Nathan’s father-in-law Glyn Schofield and brother-in-law Chad Schofield, are all scheduled to ride on Saturday and Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy says officials will do all they can to shield the family and are prepared for a change of plans.
“We will accede to what the families, the Berrys and the Schofields want,” Murrihy said.
“Tom Berry has shown a maturity that you couldn’t expect of a 23-year-old.
“We will be shielding Glyn and Tommy particularly from as much glare as possible.
“If there needs to be a change we are prepared, but we understand all three will ride.”
A professional counsellor will be available to all jockeys at the meeting.
“Racing NSW has a full-time counsellor who will spend the day in the jockeys’ room,” Murrihy said.
“The counsellor will be there for all the riders.”
Nathan Berry recently married Whitney Schofield and the young couple were in Singapore when he was struck down on March 18 with what was diagnosed as NORSE syndrome, an epilepsy-related condition.
After two weeks of treatment and a downturn in his condition, Nathan was flown home to Sydney where he died on Thursday.
The Nathan Berry Tulloch Stakes is the fifth race on the Rosehill program and Tommy, Glyn and Chad Schofield and close friend Christian Reith, all have rides in the race.
