A highlight of the stand-alone Ballarat Cup meeting will be the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic.

Open to two-year-olds purchased at Magic Millions sales around Australia, the race is run in a right-handed direction.

It is the third staging of the race and last year the three placegetters all made their way to the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.

Mick Price-trained filly Eclat makes her debut with the trainer doubting she will get to the Gold Coast, although a win may change his mind.

“I don’t think I’m going to have enough horse to go to the Magic Millions,” Price said.

“If she was to win I would ask the question, but I don’t think I’ve got the horse to get me there at the moment.”

Price said Eclat, a daughter of Beneteau for $65,000, had handled the reverse way of going.

He took the filly to Ballarat for a barrier trial in which she was shaded by Atalanta Miss who had scored a debut win at Morphettville last month.

He said although she sat wide she didn’t hang while on Tuesday she worked with Old Trieste, a debut placegetter at Flemington, the reverse way to finalise her preparation for Saturday’s race.

“She trialled alongside Paddy Payne’s two-year-old that had won in Adelaide at Ballarat,” Price said.

“Even though they were on terms, we didn’t trial as good and she worked the reverse way with Old Trieste on Tuesday.

“There wasn’t a lot between them but he was probably going the better, so I think realistically she’s a chance of running a place.

“She hasn’t been shinsore but it’s early in her career for her and she’s not readily precocious so I think she will get a good deal out of this race.”
