Smart sprinter Villa Verde has been heavily backed to win the Robert Sangster Stakes on Saturday.

Punters smashed the $7.00 opening quote, put up by online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au and the filly is now the $4.50 favourite. Gregers is on the second line of betting at $5.00 ahead of Platelet and Sharmal Wind who are both at $5.50.

“It’s been a good go for Villa Verde, but Platelet is the best backed as far as weight of money goes. It looks a tough race but obviously there are plenty who think the three-year-old can beat the older horses,’’ Sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson said.

In the Australasian Oaks May’s Dream ($4.00) narrowly heads Girl In Flight ($4.20) for favouritism. May’s Dream has dominated the betting and holds more money than all the other runners put together.
