Doncaster Mile 2014 support for last years winner

Former Sydney jockey Zac Purton was popular with punters before he left for Hong Kong and his return could be behind a solid betting move for Sacred Falls in the Doncaster.

Purton’s mount, trained by Chris Waller, has been well supported at $13 with online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au and is the second best backed runner for Saturday’s Randwick Group 1. Rising star Messene is best backed and remains favourite, but has eased from $3.50 to $4.20.

“It’s a very open race and punters are finding it tough to single one out. Zac is a champion rider and linking with Waller and a smart wet tracker, in Sacred Falls, is an appealing combination,’’ Sportsbet.com.au’s Shan Anderson said.

Weary has been one of the biggest movers, in from $11 to $6.00 and second favouritism.

Boban, despite drawing barrier 19, is the third best supported runner and great value at $19. Hawkspur ($9.00) was friendless but has admirers now after drawing well in gate eight. Group 1 winner Dear Demi is the forgotten horse, she is $41 and only a few hundred dollars invested. The same can’t be said for Hana’s Gold and Ninth Legion who have been the two best backed outsiders.

In good news for punters, Sportsbet.com.au will be paying out to fourth place in the Doncaster.
