Craiglea Wandoo to back up in 2016 Toowoomba Guineas Field

Tough Craiglea Wandoo will clock up 4000km in road travel during the past month when he contests the Toowoomba Guineas.

The Sunshine Coast-trained Craiglea Wandoo won at Mackay on March 15 and then ran an impressive fourth at Doomben on April 2 before heading to Sydney a week later.

Craiglea Wandoo ran fourth in the Randwick South Pacific Stakes behind Handfast after coming from near the tail of the field last Saturday effort, Craiglea Wandoo.

On the strength of his Sydney run, Craiglea Wandoo will be one of the favourites at Toowoomba on Saturday.

“It was a great run and we have been keen to get him out to 1600 metres,” trainer Krystle Johnson said.

“The Toowoomba Guineas is the only race to really suit him at the moment.

Johnson said Craiglea Wandoo seemed to thrive on his travel schedule as he became used to spending long hours in a horse float.

“He has won in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Brisbane so a trip up the range (to Toowoomba) won’t worry him,” Johnson said.

Craiglea Wandoo was bred and raced by Johnson’s father Stan Johnson.
