The Peter Moody cobalt inquiry will hear from the stablehand the defence blames for one of his racehorses returning an illegal cobalt reading.
Moody’s defence says stablehand Rami Myala for months mistakenly gave Lidari seven times the recommended quantity of Availa, a hoof powder containing cobalt, and Moody played no part in it.
Moody has denied suggesting to Myala or his chief feed man Neil Alexander that Lidari must have been given more Availa than was initially disclosed to stewards.
Myala and Alexander will be the main witnesses before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Monday.
Moody said it came out of left field when Myala revealed, about a month after the trainer was charged with administering cobalt, that he gave Lidari more Availa than was thought before his second in the 2014 Turnbull Stakes and his elevated cobalt reading.
Racing Victoria stewards’ barrister Jeff Gleeson QC accused Moody of having “deliberate and selective amnesia” and making up evidence about his conversation with Myala.
Moody, who faces a minimum three-year disqualification if found guilty of administration, disagreed.
Moody’s case will be adjourned after Monday and will not be concluded before the January yearling sales, where he normally spends $5-6 million.
“I think unfortunately Mr Moody is going to have to take his chances on the chequebook in early January at the Magic Millions sales,” RAD board chairman Judge John Bowman said.
