The horse might be called Ambivalent, but punters are anything but confused about the five-year-old mare’s chances in this year’s Caulfield Cup.
Within hours of Sportingbet.com.au re-opening its Caulfield Cup market on Thursday, punters began chipping away at the $101 available for the Roger Varian-trained international. She’s now into $35 at Sportingbet.
“In terms of ticket numbers, we’ve written more bets for her than any other horse since the market went back up,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
“Ambivalent has quickly become our worst way by a long way, but there’s plenty of time between now and October 18so we’re not overly concerned at this stage.”
There was a similar story in Sportingbet’s Cox Plate market, where the Robert Hickmott-trained Divan attracted interest at big odds, resulting in the three-year-old colt firming from $151 into $41.
