News:

A strong field is expected for the Group One Australian Guineas headlined by boom New Zealand colt Xtravagant.

Acceptances for Saturday’s $750,000 Group One race for three-year-olds at Flemington will be taken on Wednesday morning.

Victoria’s leading trainer Darren Weir is expected to have three runners with filly Perfect Reflection joining colts Palentino and Mahuta, while trainer Mick Price is also expected to have three runners including Victoria Derby winner Tarzino.

Price will be chasing his third Australian Guineas.

Xtravagant, winner of two Group One races by big margins across the Tasman, is at $3.80 ahead of acceptances with four other horses under double figure odds.

Palentino is at $4.80 ahead of Tarzino ($6.50), Mahuta ($7.50) and Perfect Reflection ($9).

Gai Waterhouse won the Guineas last year with Wandjina and has River Wild heading to this year’s race.
