Buffering wins the Group One Moir Stakes

Queensland champion Buffering has handed Lankan Rupee his second straight defeat at Moonee Valley, beating him in the Group One Moir Stakes.

As forecast, Buffering took the lead from the outset with Lankan Rupee stalking him all the way.

But the world’s highest ranked sprinter could not get past Buffering in the straight and had to fight to hold second from Rebel Dane.

“Everyone’s forgotten him,” Buffering’s jockey Damian Browne said.

“He’s a a wee champion. He tries his heart out.”

Buffering’s trainer Robert Heathcote will bring him back to Moonee Valley in four weeks for another stoush with Lankan Rupee.

Trainer Mick Price and jockey Craig Newitt said it was obvious by his record that Lankan Rupee did not go as well at Moonee Valley but the Manikato remained on his program.
