Bowman to miss Epsom Handicap day after suspension

Hugh Bowman has been suspended for careless riding but will not miss out on his upcoming commitments to champion mare Winx.

The star jockey will miss the three Group One races on Epsom Handicap day after he received a seven-meeting suspension for his winning ride on High Mist in the Schweppes Handicap at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

High Mist shifted out into the path of Adaboy Ross causing Silom Road to be checked.

The ban puts Bowman out of race riding from September 18 until October 2, meaning he will also miss an opportunity to ride in the Group One Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 30.

There are no Group One races in Sydney on September 24, the day of the Rupert Clarke Stakes and Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.

He is free to ride Winx in Saturday’s Group One George Main Stakes and will be back in time to ride her at her next start in the Caulfield Stakes on October 8.

Bowman, who rode a winning double at Warwick Farm, has 24 hours to decide whether to appeal the ban.
