Rising star of the west Balmont Girl has been smashed by punters for Saturday’s West Australian Oaks.
Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au reports punters have not shied away from the short $1.50 quote for the three-year-old. Balmont Girl dominates with Red Amber ($12) the next best backed runner.
“Balmont Girl donkey-licked her rivals in the lead-up over 2200m. She’s out to 2400m here and the further she goes the better she gets,’’ Sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson said.
In Saturday’s other Ascot feature, the Karrakatta Plate, consistent filly Cadenza ($4.00) holds top spot. Unbeaten Fuld’s Best ($4.80) chases three wins in a row and has received decent support to beat the favourite.
Action on the WA Derby, to be run on April 12, has been relatively quiet, but outsider Savanarola ($21) is the best backed. Favourite Ihtsahym ($2.50) is friendless, but that is likely to change as the race nears.
