Online bookmaker sportsbet has opened betting on eight Group 1 races of The Championships to be run in April.
Sportsbet.com.au is the first of the corporate bookies to post markets for the $18 million carnival in Sydney. Nominations close on February 17, but any wagers taken on horses that are subsequently not nominated will be fully refunded.
Punters have the opportunity to place an early bet on some of the thoroughbred stars expected to do battle over two Saturday’s in April.
“We’re up before anyone else because we want to give our punters the best opportunity to get value for their wagers. And it’s a win-win situation because if horses aren’t nominated on the deadline we’ll refund the wagers,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Kiwi It’s A Dundeel ($4.50) heads the market for the showcase Queen Elizabeth Stakes ahead of Guelph ($7.50), Boban and Fiorente (both $9.00).
Another highlight of the Championships will be the clash of Buffering and Zoustar in the T.J. Smith. The three-year-old Zoustar has opened $3.00 favourite with Buffering next on $6.00.
Guelph ($2.25) is the shortest opener for the Queen Of The Turf, where she will attempt to notch her fifth career Group 1.
Polanski and Complacent top the market for the Australian Derby at $4.00, as does Earthquake ($4.50) in the Sires Produce Stakes and Zanbagh ($4.00) for the ATC Oaks. Click here for all The Championships markets.
