Gerald Ryan was critical of the handicapping system when Our Boy Malachi got the better of Dothraki in the Starlight Stakes.

The two are a lot closer in the weights in Saturday’s Razor Sharp but the trainer is not sure that factor on its own is enough for Dothraki to turn the tables.

But Ryan believes the bigger track, the wet conditions and an extra 100 metres are on Dothraki’s side in the Listed sprint.

“If the circumstances were the same then the turnaround in the weights is not enough for Dothraki to beat him,” Ryan said.

“But the 1200 metres at Randwick is lot different from 1100 at Rosehill.

“A lot depends on the tempo and the conditions on the day.

“I know Dothraki can handle the wet track and I know he is fit and very well.

“But Our Boy Malachi is a class act.”

Our Boy Malachi came to Sydney from Queensland where he was known as the Rockhampton Rocket for his 13 wins from 15 starts.

He has continued the momentum for the Hawkes training partnership with two wins from his two Sydney starts including the Listed Starlight in which he beat Dothraki by 1-3/4 lengths with a 3.5kg weight advantage over the runner-up.

This time around Dothraki has 58kg, just 1kg more than his rival.

Bookmakers have the Razor Sharp as a race in two with Our Boy Malachi at $1.90 and Dothraki at $3.80 with all other runners in double figures.

Ryan also accepted with Red Excitement but said he was likely to be saved for another day.

“He is coming back from injury and I don’t want him to start out with a hard run on a heavy track,” Ryan said.

“There is a race at Doomben in another week and another one at Flemington.

“We’ll just wait and see if we get any more rain but he’s unlikely to run.”
