Weekley resumes with lead at Aust PGA

American Boo Weekley has begun his second round at the Australian PGA Championship back in the lead.

Weekley had been on a watching brief for a day after posting his first round six-under-par 66 on Thursday morning.

South Korea’s Jin Jeong and Australian Masters champion Nick Cullen both made moves on Friday morning before ending up on five-under after their second rounds.

Jeong, the former world No.1 amateur, was two shots clear at eight-under early in his second round but relinquished his advantage as he finished with a 74.

Cullen, who completed a first-round 68 early on Friday morning, shot a second-round 71 to move into a share of second.

World No.3 Adam Scott, the defending champion, was beginning his second round after a four-under 68 on Friday.

Fellow US tour star Marc Leishman was level with Scott on four-under having scored 69 in his first round and 71 in his second.

The world No.47 was happy enough with his day’s work.

“It was nice to get out early and play a fair few holes without too much wind,” Leishman said.

“I played good without doing anything great.

“It depends on what the weather does this afternoon, I guess. It looks like the wind’s going to pick up a little bit.”
