It has already been a year to remember for John Senden.

The likeable Australian golfer ended a near eight-year wait for a tournament victory at the Valspar championship in March – just his second win in 13 years on the US PGA Tour.

Senden’s breakthrough win in 2006 at the John Deere Classic was backed up with victory in that year’s Australian Open.

Now the 43-year-old Brisbane product wants to replicate that double success by winning the Australian PGA Championship at the Royal Pines course on the Gold Coast.

“Winning the Kirkwood Cup would be a dream,” Senden said.

“That’s one of the main goals playing in Australia, to win all three and doing it in Queensland with the PGA would be an added bonus.”

Senden finished tied for 23rd at the Australian Open in Sydney last month and he admits he’ll need to step up another gear if he’s to overcome a PGA field including defending champion Adam Scott and former champion Robert Allenby.

“At the Australian Open, I reckon I had my B-plus game and I think I need to have every round in the A’s this week to get it done,” he said.

“I’ve been working hard on the body to stay 100 per cent and there’s a couple of little things I’m working on to keep my speed up with the swing.

“I need to do a better job than I did at the Australian Open to be in contention.”
