Scott, Ogilvy to play Australia Open

World No.9 Adam Scott will play the Australian Open in December, as he bids to end his golf season on a high after a heart-stopping meltdown at the British Open.

Scott, eight-time major-winner Tom Watson, defending champion Greg Chalmers and former US Open title-holder Geoff Ogilvy were announced as the tournament’s first big-name starters on Friday.

The event is held at Sydney’s The Lakes Golf Club from December 6-9.

Scott, the 2009 champion and Australia’s highest ranked player, won sympathy after he threw away a four-shot lead with just four holes left to hand victory to Ernie Els at the British Open in July.

Watson is returning to an event he won in 1984.

Ogilvy was the champion in 2010 and Chalmers is looking for a third Stonehaven Cup after his victories in 1998 and last year, when he triumphed by one shot over John Senden.
