Ormsby holding off Scott at Aust PGA

South Australia’s Wade Ormsby is closing in on the biggest win of his golfing career as he continues to defy Adam Scott at the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast.

Ormsby holds a one-shot lead midway through the final round from defending champion Scott.

The 34-year-old, who was the highest ranked Australian on the European Tour this year, was bogey-free through his front nine and birdied the ninth to move to 11-under-par for the tournament.

Scott, who briefly held the lead on his own after a birdie on the par-five third, bogeyed the fifth and eighth to surrender the advantage to Ormsby.

A birdie on the ninth for Scott kept the margin to one, setting up a tense finish between the pair.

2011 champion Greg Chalmers has made a big move to put himself in contention, making six birdies in a bogey-free round to be nine under for the tournament with four holes to play in his round.

West Australia’s Scott Strange, who started the day level with Scott and Ormsby on 10 under, has dropped back after a shocking front nine featuring four bogeys and one birdie to be back at seven-under.
