Australian Matthew Millar will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the NZ PGA Championship after shooting a course record-equalling eight-under 64 in Auckland.

Millar was three shots off the pace at the start of Saturday, before producing a bogey-free performance at the Remuera Golf Club to go to 17-under after 54 holes.

“I feel pretty good about where my game’s at and this is the sort of golf course that suits me,” he said.

“I just got off to a really good start. A lot of those holes early on I like the look of.”

Millar has three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour of Australasia so far in 2015.

He will draw on his experience at the Queensland PGA Championship a fortnight ago, when he also led into the final round, but was overtaken by Aucklander Ryan Fox, who had two late eagles.

“I was gutted after Toowoomba,” Millar said.

“You don’t ever have the win until it’s signed off and you’ve got it, but I thought I was a really good chance there. I did nothing wrong on the last day.”

Tauranga’s Josh Geary posted two birdies on the last three holes for a 69 to sit in sole second spot, one stroke ahead of a group of three.
