Inside the world top 50. A US PGA Tour winner. And yet, there’s still something missing from Marc Leishman’s golf resume.
An Australian major title.
The affable 31-year-old hasn’t given up hope of filling that hole at the Australian PGA Championship despite a rough start to his tournament.
Leishman had to haul himself out of bed at 3.45am in order to be at the Royal Pines course on Friday to complete his weather-affected opening round.
After finishing with a three-under-par 69, Leishman then backed it up with a one-under 71 to be four-under heading into the final two rounds.
That score is probably just enough to keep him in contention, though it would take a fair scoring effort to achieve his dream.
“Definitely would like to win one of these. It’s a big goal,” he said.
“Growing up I watched the guys on telly play these. To win one is a huge goal.
“This week would be a nice one to get it started.”
