Lee jumps Webb to be No.1 Aust golfer

Long-time leading lady Karrie Webb has been overtaken by teenager Minjee Lee as Australia’s No.1 golfer.

Webb has reigned over Australian women’s golf for the past 20 years but Lee’s recent form has seen her leap-frog the 40-year-old.

Lee, 19, broke through for her first-ever win on the LPGA tour last month and then finished tied for sixth in the Arkansas Championship on the weekend.

Those results boosted the West Australian to 16th on the official world rankings released overnight, two places ahead of Webb who dropped back to 18.

Webb still has her eye on making the Australian team for the Rio Olympics next year.

The top 15 world-ranked players will be eligible for the Olympics, with a limit of four players from a given country.

Beyond that, players will be eligible based on the world rankings, with a maximum of two players from each country.
