Ko named LPGA rookie of the year

Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko, already the LPGA’s youngest winner and millionaire, has added the rookie-of-the-year trophy to her collection of accolades.

Ko, 17, has compiled a stellar season including two victories, two runners-up, and nine additional top-10 finishes with three events still remaining on the LPGA schedule.

“It’s really been a dream rookie season for me,” she said in a statement.

“I learned so much and am glad to have achieved some of my goals along the way.

“It’s an honour to have my name now etched alongside such amazing players and legends of the game on the list of rookie-of-the-year winners.”

World No.3 Ko’s most recent finish was third in the Taiwan Championship two weeks ago, five strokes behind winner Inbee Park of South Korea.

Her effort was worth $US133,030 ($A144,000), taking her season’s earnings to over $US1.5 million.

Ko’s streak of 40 straight cuts is the best on Tour. She’s never missed a cut in an LPGA Tour event.
