Ko consolidates in Singapore

Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has battled through an up-and-down back nine to finish three shots off the lead and hold on to a share of fourth place at the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament in Singapore.

The world No.1, who carded four-under 68 in her opening round at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course, eased her way through an uneventful front nine on Friday, picking up a single birdie at the par-four third.

Ko bounced between the sublime and the ridiculous over her closing nine, compiling four birdies, a bogey and a double bogey to shoot two-under 70 and share fourth place with Australian Karrie Webb, Stacy Lews (US) and South Korea’s Jenny Shin.

Overnight leader Inbee Park (South Korea), ranked second in the world, shot three-under 69 for share of the lead with Spain’s Carlota Ciganda, whose 66 lifted her eight places up the leaderboard.

Azahara Munoz, also of Spain, sits clear in third, one stroke ahead of 17-year-old Ko.
