Jeong takes lead at Aust PGA

Former world No.1 amateur Jin Jeong has made a move to be two shots clear early on the second morning of the Australian PGA Championship.

The South Korean was one of about 50 golfers forced to complete their first round on Friday morning after a weather-interrupted opening day, moving ahead of overnight leader Boo Weekley with a seven-under-par 65 at Royal Pines.

In heavy rain and strong wind, Jeong began his second round, making birdie on the par-four 10th to move two shots clear of Weekley, who will start his second round at 12.20 AEST.

Jeong had earlier birdied three of his remaining six holes to overtake Weekley, who had been the overnight leader after a first round 66 on Thursday.

“I feel pretty good actually, it’s a nice morning, I still quite enjoyed it,” Jeong said after his first round.

“I’ve been working pretty hard the last few months and finally I’m seeing some improvement the last couple of weeks.

“I’m hitting pretty good so hopefully I can keep it going.”

Other players to make their move on Friday morning include Australian pair Nick Cullen and Marc Leishman, who are both four under through three holes in their second round.

Rod Pampling has moved to three under after completing a first round 69 on Friday morning and is even through four holes in his second round.

Defending champion Adam Scott is also on four under after a 68 on Thursday and is set to begin his second round at 12.10pm AEST.
