Jason Day’s odds shorten in 2014 US Masters betting

Defending champion Adam Scott is an $11 favourite at Sportingbet to make it back-to-back wins in the US Masters but it’s his compatriot Jason Day who is attracting the attention of punters ahead of the year’s first major.

Day is a solid $15 fourth favourite but Sportingbet is taking more bets for him than any other player as the tournament draws closer.

“We are writing more tickets for Day to win compared to any other player and while we’ll be cheering him on, he’s probably our worst result,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.

“Looking at Day’s course form you can understand why he is so popular in the market and after knocking on the door before, punters think this is his year for the green jacket.”

Marc Leishman ($81), Matt Jones ($101), John Senden ($161), Steven Bowditch ($201) and Oliver Goss ($501) are the other Australian contenders.

Sportingbet set a total of over/under 4.5 for the number of Australians to make the cut, but punters have backed under 4.5 from $1.91 into $1.53 favourite.

Sportingbet is offering money back if the player you back finishes second or third.
