Henley wins playoff at Florida PGA event

P – Russell Henley has made good on his second chance at the 18th hole and won the US PGA Tour’s Honda Classic in a four-man playoff.

The closing hour produced a series of blunders at PGA National in Florida, particularly by Rory McIlroy, who squandered a two-shot lead by closing with a 74.

Henley was in position to win in regulation until he chunked a wedge shot and had to scramble for par on the par-5 18th.

In the playoff, he was the only player to reach the green in two and two-putted for birdie and the win while Russell Knox, Ryan Palmer and McIlroy were left tied for second place.

Henley, who closed with 72, won for the second time and qualified for the Masters.

Stuart Appleby faded on the last day with a 72 but still finished tied eighth and leading Australian at five-under.

Beginning his tournament build up to his Masters title defence in April, Adam Scott shot a closing 69 to tie for 12th at four-under.

Tiger Woods withdrew after 13 holes, citing a lower back injury.
