Golfer Greg Chalmers ready for family fun

Veteran Australian golfer Greg Chalmers hopes some more time with the family will help him strike it lucky on the PGA Tour next year.

Chalmers will only have conditional status on the PGA Tour in 2015 after enduring a tough year in the US in which his best result on the main tour was a tie for 15th.

The 41-year-old will probably only get around 12 to 14 starts on the PGA Tour next year, meaning he’ll have to spend the rest of his time on the secondary Web.com circuit.

Chalmers would either have to win a PGA Tour event or finish inside the top 125 money earners if he is to win back his card.

Alternatively, he can regain his status by finishing in the top-25 on the Web.com tour.

Chalmers plans to cut down his schedule from around 30 tournaments to 20 next year, and he hopes the extra time at home will leave him refreshed and ready to fire for the PGA tournaments.

“I’ve been on the road a lot now,” Chalmers said.

“I’m 41 and been travelling for 22 years. So it might be time to hang out and find out what my kids names are again.

“I’ve got two young boys, 11 and 8.

“It gets difficult if you just blow in for a night and leave – my youngest son gets upset about that.

“It’s just dad stuff I’m looking forward to.

“I enjoy watching them play sport. They’re playing soccer, jujitsu, martial arts.”

Chalmers was lucky to make the cut this week at the Perth International, finishing his second round at one-under to scrape through to the weekend.

But 2006 US Open winner Geoff Ogilvy wasn’t so lucky, with the 37-year-old chopped after going one-over through his opening two rounds.
