American Jason Dufner believes his game will benefit by playing golf tournaments all around the world rather than confining himself to the United States.

World No.10 Dufner is the favourite at this week’s $2 million Perth International at Lake Karrinyup, which also features 2011 US Masters winner Charl Schwartzel, former world No.3 Paul Casey and world No.24 Bo Van Pelt.

Although Dufner plies his trade mainly in the US, he sets aside a portion of his year to play tournaments around the world.

The 35-year-old felt he owed it to golf fans to travel as much as he could.

“For me, it’s important to take my game globally,” Dufner said.

“I try to find three or four events internationally, whether they are here in Australia or maybe in Asia, and come over and experience the golf and experience the cultures that you get.

“You experience different golf courses, different styles of play. It makes you better. It tests your game.

“This golf course (in Perth) is a lot different than what we see in the States.

“Same thing when I go to Asia – a lot different than what we see in the States. I think it makes you a better golfer.

“This is my third year of doing this, and I really can’t find a drawback other than the initial travel on the trip.

“Thirty-five hours is a long way away but, once you get over here, it’s a lot of fun.”

Dufner has claimed two victories on the PGA Tour this year, snaring the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and HP Byron Nelson Championship.
