Choi grabs LPGA lead in Ohio

Chella Choi rallied with three late birdies to card a four-under 67 and grab a one-shot lead after the second round of the LPGA Tour’s Jamie Farr Toledo Classic in Ohio on Friday.

Choi, winless in her four years on the LPGA tour, moved to nine-under for the tournament to lead a South Korean assault at the rainy Highland Meadows Golf Club.

Five of the top eight golfers on the leaderboard are from South Korea.

Of the Australians, Lindsey Wright (68) is four shots behind Choi while Sarah-Jane Smith matched her first-round 71 to just make the cut.

However, compatriots Katherine Hull (72) and Sarah Kemp (75) won’t be around for the weekend.

Inbee Park shot the lowest round for the day, climbing 29 spots on the leaderboard with a six-under 65. Park is the winner of the tour’s most recent tournament, the Evian Masters.

Japan’s Mika Miyazato had a 68 and South Korea’s Hee Kyung Seo a 66 to join Park at eight-under.

First-round leader Pernilla Lindberg (71), South Korea’s Hee-Won Han (67), Karine Icher (69) of France and South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu (68) were another shot back.
