Canadian Taylor in first US PGA Tour win

Canadian Nick Taylor has fired a closing six-under par 66 to capture his first US PGA Tour title.

Taylor’s 16-under-par total of 272 gave him a two-shot victory over Americans Boo Weekley and Jason Bohn in the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Missouri.

Weekley also finished with a 66 while Bohn had a 69.

John Rollins, who started Sunday with a two-shot lead, settled for a one-over par 73 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth alongside Justin Thomas (67) and Peter Uihlein, who rocketed up the leaderboard with a seven-under 65.

Rod Pampling (74), was the leading Australian but well back in a tie for 69th on 289.

Taylor went into the final round four shots off the pace, but precision off the tee and some improved putting saw him erase the deficit with a four-under front nine and carry on to victory.

After hitting only 21 of 42 fairways in regulation through the first three rounds, Taylor hit 10 of 14 on Sunday — and needed just one putt at 10 holes.

His eight birdies included three in a row from the 13th through the 15th — where his precise tee shot left him 86 yards to the pin.

He hit a wedge to 11 feet and curled in the birdie putt.

Taylor, a graduate of the Web.com developmental tour, led by three with two holes to play, and even a three-putt bogey at the last wouldn’t allow his closest followers to catch him.
