Aust teen Lee books LPGA tour card

Australian teen golf star Minjee Lee has secured her LPGA card for next year after finishing at the top of the leaderboard at the qualifying tournament in Florida.

The talented 18-year-old finished at 10-under-par 350, tying for top spot with American amateur Alison Lee.

The Australian carded rounds of 72, 71, 68, 66 and 73 at the LPGA International’s Hills and Jones courses.

While thrilled to book her LPGA card, Lee said passing Q-School had been tough.

“I never ever want to do that again,” she said.

“I’m definitely relieved. It was such a stressful week.

“I am just overwhelmed.”

Lee said she was looking forward to playing alongside compatriot and multiple majors winner Karrie Webb – and netting some serious prizemoney – in 2015.

“I think it will be really fun,” she said of the upcoming season.

“There are a lot of people that I know that made it this year (through Q-School), so it will be fun to compete with them.”

The result tops off a successful year for the West Australian, who started as an amateur before taking out the Victorian Open in February.

She went on to play for the Australian team at the inaugural International Crown alongside Webb, Katherine Kirk and Lindsey Wright.

The players who finished within the top 20 at the Florida tournament received full LPGA cards for 2015, while those ranked 21st to 45th garnered conditional qualifications, including NSW’s Emma de Groot, who was tied for 35th at even-par.

Perth golfer Jayde Panos finished just one shot short of conditional qualification in a tie for 46th.
