Adam Scott’s chances slip at Masters

Adam Scott’s chances to defend the green jacket are very slim after he failed to make a front nine charge at the Masters.

Scott started six shots back in his quest to be just the fourth player to go back-to-back at Augusta National but bogeyed two of the opening three holes to set his challenge well back on its heels.

Birdies on seven, eight and nine to close the front side allowed the first Australian to win the green jacket a small glimmer of hope on Sunday, leaving him seven off the pace heading into the important final nine.

He’ll be looking to make a charge and post a number in the clubhouse.

Jordan Spieth, at just 20 years of age, is in the box seat to become the youngest Masters champion in history, holding an early two shot lead on the final day.

Spieth is two-under over his first four holes on Sunday to be seven-under, two shots clear of 2012 winner Bubba Watson.

Spieth sent the patrons into raptures by holing out from a bunker for birdie on the fourth hole.

John Senden has joined Scott in a tie for 10th at even-par for the week through eight holes.

Jason Day is tied for 21st through 10 holes, Steven Bowditch is four-over with two to play and Oliver Goss finished off his Silver Cup winning run at 10-over par with a final round 75.
