Punters are confident Adam Scott will complete a clean sweep of Australia’s major golf tournaments with a win in this week’s Australian Open and become just the second person to achieve Australia’s triple crown of golf.
Scott has been installed a $3.75 favourite to win at Royal Sydney with Sportingbet Australia following wins in the Australian PGA and Australian Masters.
“The punters love Scott, he was heavily backed to win the PGA and Masters and we expect the money will come for him to complete the triple crown,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.
Despite his brilliant form, Sportingbet is going to take Scott on.
“This is the toughest field Scott has faced in Australia so we are happy to offer punters the best price for Scott. Jason Day beat him in the World Cup and we think he can do it again,” Felgate said.
Day has been the best backed to beat Scott firming from $8 into $7.50. He is now equal second favourite with former world number 1 Rory McIlroy who has eased from $7 out to $7.50.
The top three golfers dominate betting, with the next best in the market at $26.
“It would be a major surprise if the winner came from outside the top three, we’ve hardly taken a bet on the rest of the field, ” Felgate said.
Robert Allenby, the only golfer to complete the Australian triple crown in 2005, is a $41 chance to deny Scott’s quest to join him this week.
