American team Garmin won Monday’s second stage of the Tour of Qatar, a 11.3km time trial at the Losail MotoGp circuit.

Belgian Tom Boonen of Omega Pharma-Quick Step, winner of Sunday’s first stage, retained the race leader’s jersey, with American Tyler Farrar second on the same time.

Garmin finished the time trial ahead of Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Sky while Australia’s GreenEdge was 16 seconds down in 7th place.

Aussie rider Mark Renshaw, the defending champion, dropped out of the top ten to 38th place, 19 seconds behind, after his Rabobank team finished 17 seconds behind the winners.

Tuesday’s third stage is over 146km between Dukhan and Al Gharafa Stadium.
