Cyclist escapes crash with bruising

Tasmanian cyclist Peter Loft has escaped with severe bruising after Saturday night’s three-rider pileup at the Australian track championships.

Loft had to be stretchered from the track at the Adelaide Superdrome after the crash in the closing laps of the men’s scratch race, won by SA star Jack Bobridge.

Scott Law (NSW) and Stephen Hall (WA) also came down, but were able to walk afterwards.

Tasmanian coach Gene Bates said Loft had bruising to his pelvis.

The rider will be off the bike for a week and might have further X-rays in a week to confirm there are no fractures.

“He’s very lucky not to have broken anything,” Bates said.

“He was in the pool this afternoon, walking.”
