White joins BBL rivals Melbourne Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades have pulled off the biggest signing coup over a cross town rival, luring foundation Melbourne Stars captain Cameron White to the BBL franchise.

Following plenty of speculation the former Australia Test, one-day and Twenty20 batsman was on the move, the Renegades on Wednesday announced White will be in their red shirt for the next three seasons.

Under White’s captaincy, the Stars qualified for the semi-finals over the first four BBL seasons but got no further.

The Renegades will be hoping White can lift their underperforming side are finishing sixth or worse in three of the four seasons.

White will join his Victorian teammates Aaron Finch, Matthew Wade, James Pattinson and Peter Siddle at the Renegades.

“It’s a big move for me but it’s the right one,” said White in a statement.

“After four years with the Stars now is the time for a fresh start and the Renegades were at the front of the queue. I’m glad I can stay in Melbourne.”

A former Australian T20 captain, White has played 199 career T20 matches with an average of 30.41 at a strike rate of 128.48.
