We’ll give Aussies tough time: Baugh

Carlton Baugh says he’s out to give Australia a tough game when he leads a West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI against the tourists in a three-day match in Barbados on Monday.

Baugh, who played all five one-day internationals and both Twenty20 matches against Australia for the Windies, is hoping to continue the fighting spirit from both those series in the tour match at the 3Ws Oval in Bridgetown.

“The expectation is to go out there and give the Australians a hard run,” Baugh told reporters.

“We’ll definitely look to try and restrict them when we bowl.”

The 29-year-old wicketkeeper has another reason to put on a strong display in the match as he tries to retain his Test position ahead of rival Denesh Ramdin.

Baugh only got the call-up for the ODIs and T20s after Ramdin broke a thumb during a warm-up match before Australia’s tour began.

And Ramdin has returned in time for the Tests, leading Trinidad in a regional four-day competition semi-final against Barbados in Port of Spain this weekend.

“My aim is to try and score runs whenever I get the opportunity and try to put it together,” said Baugh, who has scored 12 First Class centuries in his career.

“Hopefully if things go to plan I’ll definitely be looking for number 13.”

The three-day tour match begins at 10am on Monday (0000 Tuesday AEST).
