David Warner celebrated his first Test century at home, blasting 101 at the SCG on Tuesday.

Warner pulled Mohammed Shami through mid-wicket for four in the first ball of the 41st over as he moved onto three figures, just before 2pm AEDT on day one of the fourth Test.

The 27-year-old let out a shout of joy, jumped and punched the air as he ran down the wicket.

He then raised his helmet to the sky and kissed the Australian crest in a tribute to good mate Phillip Hughes.

Warner added one more run before he was caught at gully by Murali Vijay off Ravichandran Ashwin.

But the knock had already put Australia in the box seat for a victory that would hand them a 3-0 series win.

It was Warner’s third hundred of the series, after he scored 145 and 102 in the first Test in Adelaide.

To do it at home made it all the sweeter for Warner.

“It’s very special,” Warner said.

“I spoke to the guys the other day and I hadn’t scored a hundred at home or the MCG, and I was sort of talking myself out of it in a way.

“I said I might as well not play those two Tests, because I can’t score a run there.

“It’s great to get milestones … and I’ve done my job for the team.”
