Voges ruled out of England tour match

Batsman Adam Voges has been ruled out of the Cricket Australia Invitational XI with a lower back complaint, further weakening the opposition England will face in the four-day SCG clash that is their final Ashes warm up match.

The Western Australia skipper was replaced by 20-year-old Kurtis Patterson in the Invitational XI squad on Tuesday, one day after Usman Khawaja and Phil Hughes were withdrawn from the team so they could play for their states in Sheffield Shield.

Left-arm spinner Stephen O’Keefe has also been withdrawn from the Invitational side after being drafted into the NSW team for their Shield match against Queensland.

Victorian legspinner James Muirhead will take O’Keefe’s spot in the Invitational XI.

Last month Cricket Australia yielded partially to England’s request for stronger opposition in the tour match after it was originally slated to be played by a NSW XI.

Revised Cricket Australia Invitational XI: Ed Cowan (Tas), Aaron Finch (Vic), Callum Ferguson (SA), Kurtis Patterson (NSW), Ben Rohrer (NSW), Ryan Carters (NSW), Peter Nevill (capt, NSW), James Muirhead (Vic), Josh Lalor (NSW), Chris Tremain (NSW), Nic Bills (NSW).
