Shane Watson ready to return for Australia

Australian allrounder Shane Watson says he has overcome his latest injury.

Watson missed last Sunday’s tri-series final because of hamstring tightness, but will return in a World Cup warm-up game against India on Sunday in Adelaide.

“I’ll be ready to bowl a few overs, it won’t be bowling 10 overs tomorrow, but a few overs and getting back into it,” Watson told reporters on Saturday.

Watson said he was rested from the tri-series final purely as a precaution.

“Just from my history of injuries, if we just give it a little bit more time then I have never had any problems coming back,” he said.

“It’s normally when I have pushed the time to get back is when I have more chance of being able to stir it up again.

“From previous experience, it’s just making sure we took a bit of extra time to give myself the best chance of being right.”

Watson’s return leaves fellow allrounder James Faulkner (abdominal strain) and captain Michael Clarke (hamstring) in Australia’s injury list.

Watson said Clarke was set to play in Australia’s second cup game against Bangladesh on February 21, a week after their tournament opener against England.

“It’s nice to have Michael back in and around the group again, I know everyone is very confident that he’ll be right to play the second game,” Watson said.
