Scotland all out for 130 v Aust in WC

Pat Cummins has proven selectors right, taking a trio of wickets as Australia’s bowling attack decimated Scotland who were all out for their lowest World Cup tournament score of 130 in Hobart.

Along with an impressive 4-14 from Mitchell Starc, the hosts’ bowling unit tore through Scotland who on Saturday batted for just 26 of their 50 overs on the Bellerive pitch.

Cummins’ inclusion was the only change for the Australian XI, at the expense of spinner Xavier Doherty, for Saturday’s fixture where he took 3-42.

Brought into the attack in the 17th over, Cummins didn’t waste time, taking two wickets, including that of Scotland’s sole shining light, Matt Machan (40).

The left-handed batsman lasted 64 minutes against Australia’s polished attack, but a short Cummins’ delivery popped off the bat to be caught at long leg.

Cummins’ figures took a pounding courtesy of Scotland’s No.10 Michael Leask (23 not out) whose knock included four boundaries off the paceman’s deliveries.

The bad news started early for Scotland, losing their first wicket in the third over with Kyle Coetzer (0) caught at third slip off the bowling of Starc.

Australia’s top tournament wicket taker struck again four overs later, claiming the scalp of Calum MacLeod (22), who popped a ball up to be caught at backward point.

Shane Watson was brought in for the sixth over and didn’t have to wait long for a breakthrough, claiming the important scalp of Scotland captain Preston Mommsen (0).

Glenn Maxwell found success on his first delivery, taking the wicket of Richie Berrington (1).

With Scotland at 8-130 the covers came on for a short interval amid light rain.

Starc finished it off in the first over back, bowling Josh Davey (26) and his replacement Iain Wardlaw (0).

Australia has reshuffled its batting order with Clarke promoted from No.4 to open alongside Aaron Finch.
