Sandhu to debut, India to bat in ODI

Australia will field first in Sunday’s one-day clash with India at the MCG, where Gurinder Sandhu will make his international (ODI) debut.

India skipper MS Dhoni won the toss in Melbourne, opting to bat first on what looks to be a pristine batting pitch.

Sandhu was added to the XI that defeated England on Friday, with spinner Xavier Doherty making way.

The hosts started the tri-series with a three-wicket victory over England.

“Really pleasing with both bat and ball. Hopefully that sets the tone for a number of weeks,” Australia captain George Bailey said at the toss.

Sandhu is not part of Australia’s World Cup squad, but joined the one-day team as cover following Mitchell Johnson’s hamstring injury.

Australia: Aaron Finch, David Warner, Shane Watson, Steve Smith, George Bailey (capt), Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin, James Faulkner, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Gurinder Sandhu.

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (capt), Akshar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav.
